The Mankalale Red Jackfruit is a renowned variety of jackfruit known for its superior quality, originating from the Karnataka region of India. In 2003-04, it gained widespread recognition when it was selected as the best among more than 150 exceptional varieties from Karnataka and Kerala at one of the first exclusive jackfruit fairs, held in Keladi, Sagara. Celebrated for its vibrant red flesh, rich taste, and high yield, the Mankalale Red Jackfruit has since become a symbol of excellence in jackfruit cultivation, attracting farmers and fruit enthusiasts alike.
Plant Size: Delivered as a well-established sapling (8-12 months old), ready to be planted. The plant weighs around 1.5 kg to 2.5 kg.
Growth Conditions: This variety performs best in open, sunlit conditions with well-drained soil conditions at a spacing of 30 feet by 30 feet.
Harvest Period: The typical yielding season is from April to July. And the yielding commences from 5 or 6 years of planting, and it has a very high yielding potential under minimum irrigation and fertigation.
Key Features of Mankalale Red Jackfruit:
- This kind of jackfruit has vivid reddish-orange bulbs that are juicy and crunchy, with a high sweetness level (TSS ranging from 30 to 40) and a delightfully aromatic honey flavour.
- Fruits range in weight from 10 kg to 15 kg and are generally well-formed. The fruits have a recovery up to 70%, apart from the bulbs. Almost all of the fake flake mass is edible and tastes better than the bulbs themselves.
- This drought- and disease-tolerant tree grows robustly, and it thrives in both dry and humid environments with heavy rainfall.
